Welcome to Raising Kids Young! I'm so glad you have taken time to stop by and look around. I am a wife to a loving husband and a mother to two beautiful children! I was married young and started a family soon after, all while balancing the military life, going to school full time, and finally being a stay-at home-mom. I hope while you are here, you can get a few good laughs at my expense, gather some encouragement, and make connections with other wives and mommies who share similarities with you! Happy reading and don't forget to share!

The Plans I Have for You
April 24, 2015 | By: Alex | Comment
I set my oldest in his highchair for dinner and prepared him a cup of milk like I did every night for supper. After handing it to him I turn around to stir the noodles in the pot. It was spaghetti night...for the third time that week. My four week old baby girl was in her swing crying. (It was her 5-7 fussy time.) I hear my son's cup slam against the floor followed by a loud scream for "JUICE!!" That was it. That was my last strand of patience and it snapped. It snapped and I was on the floor. Literally on my knees, head in my hands, sobbing.

Mom-Bashing: Why We Should Stop
April 20, 2015 | By: Alex | Comment
Mom-Bashing.
We all do it. Whether you know it or not. We judge, we assume, and we look down.
The breastfeeding mom will always be doing what’s “healthiest.” The stay-at-home mom will always be the most involved parent. There are so many rules; baby carrying or not, use the cry it out method or don’t, co-sleep or crib train. Juice or no juice. Enroll them in daycare or not. And we all seem to have strong opinions about each of these topics. Why are we so hard on moms who choose to do things a little differently than us?

To the Not-So-Newlywed Wife

Don’t forget what it was like to date that handsome boy. Remember your instant connection, how much you two had in common. Many nights you two would stay up talking and learning about each other. Remember how he’d pick you up in his red Hyundia and you’d listen to his oldies. You thought his loud, off-key singing was cute back then.

You are doing it Right

Sunday's can be rough! Is anyone with me?!
Saturday is spent cramming in as much family time, fun activities, errands, shopping, home improvements, birthday parties, and cleaning as possible! By the end of the day after bathing your dirty, sweaty kids (or not), fighting with them to eat their healthy dinner after a day of junk food, and getting them to actually stay in bed to sleep you just want to curl up under your covers and sleep for eternity. But you cant. Tomorrow is Sunday.

So if you're anything like me, you have an obsession. An obsession that takes over part of your life. An obsession that has your husband questioning your motives.

The Potty Dance
April 8, 2015 | By: Alex | Comment
Let me start by saying I am not coordinated at all! I cannot dance. I’m pretty sure if I do dance, I look like an awkward giraffe throwing my arms is all directions. Bad description, I know, but I’m that bad. I have two left feet and no rhythm. But yesterday I danced! I danced like no one was looking (and I really hope that’s the case.)
I did the potty dance!

I'm not Enough

I say hurtful things when I'm angry. When I am flustered with my husband, I will say what I know will hurt. I don’t know why I do it, in fact as soon as the words leave my lips, I’m frantically reaching and grasping to put them back. But it’s too late. The sting of something not meant is burning in my husband’s heart.

Life Begins

It’s Easter. A day to celebrate. A day filled with church services, egg hunts, and spring outfits.
We had dyed our Easter eggs the night before, laid out our new (consigned) outfits, gave the kids a much needed bath. We were ready for the fun-filled, special day ahead.

The Parent in School
April 3, 2015 | By: Alex | Comment
It's well past mid-night and I'm woken to the sound of boots sleepily moving across our hard wood floor. The boots soon come off as my husband tries not to wake me and our two sleeping babies in our soon-to-be outgrown house. As I pull the blanket around me, I walk into the kitchen and see him making what I'm sure is his fourth cup of coffee. I know this means he is not planning on coming to bed soon...

Weary and Burdened
April 2, 2015 | By: Alex | Comment
"Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Matthew 11: 28-30
I am weary today. I feel burdened.
My patience is short, my temper is quick.

The Woman with Two Jobs: The Working Mom
April 1, 2015 | By: Alex | Comment
Wednesdays: they can be the hardest days for you. It's five o'clock. You are relieved the work day is over, now you can breathe...sorta. You drive home thinking about how much you'd like to just sit down for a minute or two and do something for you: read, write, take a power-nap. But you cant.

Remember the days when your husband would come home from wok and the first thing you did was kiss him and ask how his day went? You'd sit on the couch and talk about the events of your day, maybe go out for an early movie then dinner.

My husband and I are enjoying a date night on a Thursday night! We are newly married so we can do mid-week dates...stay up late too and not regret it the next morning! We are enjoying a milkshake at Chick-Fil-A.

My husband and I have been reading this book called Effective Parenting in a Defective World by Chip Ingram.
If you've never heard or read this book, I highly recommend you read it. As a parent trying to raise my children to love God and how to do that in today's world, this is an excellent resource!
