Two blog posts in one week...WHAT?! I will be MIA next week so I have to get ahead...or at least caught up ;)
Does anyone else feel like they are always playing catch up?! When do we ever catch up? Oh well..I'm starting to accept the catch up game.
This week was all about water and the Ocean. I know a couple weeks back we learned about water but this week was more about the ocean and what inhabits it. We discussed the size of the ocean and it different creatures. We talked about coral, sand, and seashells and about all the colors we see in the ocean! The kids already knew so much about about this topic so circle time was full of chit chatter about all thing OCEAN!
First off, our bible focus was on Moses and the parting of the Red Sea (see where the ocean theme comes in!) After discussing the story about how Moses saved God's people from Pharaoh the bad King and how to parted the Sea for the people to cross, we did a tissue paper craft of Moses parting the sea.

Like I said, at circle time we discussed Ocean animals, critters, and plants. We observed size, color, and sounds! Just as God made every one of us special, he also made these sea creatures special. Like how He gave octopus eight tentacles, sharks sharp teeth, and coral beautiful, vibrant color!
I found these super cute clothes pins at Michael's craft store and thought they would be perfect for our week on Ocean Mysteries. Although only two or three kiddos kept them on, I still think it was a cute idea :)

On Tuesday we made an Ocean in a bottle. This was a favorite for the kiddos! They loved that they had a little bit of ocean to hold in their hands.
The materials needed are plastic water bottles, water, blue food coloring, sand, seashells, and fish stickers.
I allowed the kids to put fish stickers on the outside of the bottler as I filled one bottle at a time with a little bit of sand and water. I let the students put some seashells in the I hot glued the lid on and ta-da! Ocean in a bottle!
Thursday we made Octopus. This craft doesnt get any easier. The picture is instruction enough. I let the kids count eight legs (a little math lesson)
To top off the week, we had water day on Tuesday. We had postponed it to this week with all the rain we got last week so my son has been begging me everyday for "WATER DAY!" And it finally came!
I think the kids had fun despite the HEAT!
